The Health-Damaging Effects of Glyphosate May Extend Well Beyond Cancer

In order to avoid the health problems associated with glyphosate, we may have to stop eating packaged food products altogether

Monday, October 1, 2018 - With all of the talk of multi-million dollar jury awards claiming that Roundup herbicide with glyphosate may cause cancer, millions of Americans are concerned about their food supply and the diet they are eating. In a recent article on www.ecowatch.com, the consumer safety organization cites a study by the American Medical Association that claims that we are much better off by eating an organic diet and that doing so would reduce the risks of cancer by 25%. In addition, their study indicates that pesticides show up in the urine of 90% of ordinary Americans. (1)

There are many reasons to consider eating organic and to avoid products that contain glyphosate. Articles and studies have shown that elevated levels of cancer-causing glyphosate are starting to show up in the urine of adults and children that eat packaged breakfast cereals. Cheerios, Frosted Flakes and also Nature Valley Granola have all admitted concern about the amount of glyphosate in their packaged products. The level of glyphosate is so high that many food companies have voluntarily removed the term "All Natural" from their packaging to reflect their concern for the health consequences of consuming glyphosate. While the level of glyphosate in any one food or product is considered safe by the FDA, consumers and our children eat and drink hundreds of food products that contain glyphosate regularly. Starting with breakfast cereal of corn, oats, or grains and juice containing high-fructose corn syrup, to the grains in the bread of a lunch sandwich and on and on, consumers ingest potentially cancer-causing high levels of glyphosate over a period of time. Of the greatest concern are children born to adults that have spent a lifetime ingesting glyphosate. Researchers at MIT have found a link between children whose parents have an elevated glyphosate level and children born with or developing autism. (2)

The only way to get Roundup herbicide and potentially cancer-causing glyphosate taken off of the US market is to hit the company, Monsanto, where it hurts the most... in the pocketbook. The best way to do that, consumer organizations argue it to stop buying packaged foods and to feed your family a 100% organic diet. It should come as no surprise to anyone who has read up on the subject that a diet that consists mainly of organic fruits and vegetables, with the addition of a small amount of organic meat is the healthiest and safest to eat. To further educate oneself you may wish to visit the Organic Trade Association website located online at https://ota.com. A recent article on the website highlights the steady growth rate of 6.4% that organic foods are experiencing. This rate of growth is 6 times the pace of the overall food market. "Foods including organic dairy and eggs now account for 5.5 percent of the food sold in retail channels in the U.S." (3)
