California's List of Chemicals That Cause Cancer Includes Glyphosate

Monsanto-led agricultural groups attempt to have glyphosate removed from California's cancer list

Friday, March 16, 2018 - The State of California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment recently added glyphosate to their list of chemicals that cause cancer. Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide and the reason over 380 lawsuits have been filed. California's anti-cancer legislation Proposition 65, requires companies that sell chemicals on their cancer list to warn consumers with a sign at the entrance of their establishment that they are selling a known carcinogenic. Prop 65 also requires companies selling the carcinogenic to place a warning label on the product. Pro-Monsanto groups successfully challenged the state's ruling and for the time being companies manufacturing products that contain glyphosate will not have to comply with the warning label requirement. Companies selling glyphosate product will, however, have to place "cancer-causing product for sale" warning sign up.

Pro glyphosate groups suing the state to overturn the Proposition 64 ruling are led by Chandler Goule, the chief executive officer for the National Association of Wheat Growers, a powerful political lobbying organization. Mr. Goule has said that the decision to leave glyphosate on the state cancer list is, "unwarranted on the basis of science and the law," and the group of major agricultural companies will continue to fight to have glyphosate completely removed.

It is difficult to fully believe the statements of the pro-Monsanto/glyphosate advocacy agricultural groups. Monsanto has lied frequently in the past and while such lies seemingly escape detection from US regulators, overseas lawmakers are not so easily cowed. According to www.mercola.com, In 2009, a French court found Monsanto guilty of lying; falsely advertising its Roundup herbicide as "biodegradable," "environmentally friendly" and claiming it "left the soil clean." Dr. Mercola goes on to point out that given their track record of producing deadly, cancer-causing chemicals such as agent orange, Monsanto can be categorized as "one of the evilest companies on the planet," and that the company has never lifted a finger to "improve their worldwide influence on human and environmental health. "Agent Orange," a chemical defoliant used in the jungles of Vietnam and Cambodia was, like Roundup glyphosate, thought to be a safe and life-saving product but has since been revealed to be extremely carcinogenic. Hundreds of thousands of US soldiers have died from and continue to die from Agent Orange cancer.

In addition to their history of lies, Dr. Mercola's points to the work of leading MIT scientist Dr. Stephanie Seneff's in analysing health trends that correspond to the exponential usage of glyphosate on our food supply and points to a one-to-one relationship between glyphosate and the increases in autism, allergies, cancer, Parkinson's, Chrone's, cardiovascular disease, infertility, multiple sclerosis, obesity, chronic depression, Alzheimer's, ALS and others.
